Leota (Lee) Nowland
Nowland, Leota (Lee) Leota (Lee) Fern (Brown) Nowland passed away in her daughters home on January 31, 2019 at the age of 93. Born in Lansing Michigan on April 19,1925 the third daughter of Harrie and Sadie Brown. Lee moved to Ann Arbor in 1945 and married Richard Arthur Nowland February 14,1947. Lee was an active member of Memorial Christian Church, Disciples of Christ for over 60 years. In the early 1980's, she was a founder of that Church's AIDS group. It was formed to seek out the most accurate information on the disease crisis from public health and medical professionals and then urge religious congregations of Washtenaw County to create an informed, compassionate and welcoming response to AIDS victims and their families. She was preceded in death by her son Scott Lee Nowland in1991, her husband Richard Arthur Nowland in1996 and her sister Mildred Bradshaw in 2006. Lee is survived by her daughter Amy Lou Nowland of Ann Arbor, her sister Mary Williams of Lansing, nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, February 17th, 2pm at Journey of Faith Christian Church, 1900 Manchester, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48104 Memorial contributions may be made to Journey of Faith Christian Church
