He loved sports and enthusiastically participated in basketball, track and football while attending high school and pole vaulted at Michigan Tech in Sault St. Marie, MI in his freshman year of college. Joining the US Army in 1959 he served 3 years in Europe. Upon returning to the US he received his Associate's Degree from Northwest MI College in Petoskey. He began his teaching career in 1965 at Rockford High School where he was employed for 35 years. While teaching at both the old and new Rockford High Schools, he was honored to be able to continue to pursue his love of golf and sports through coaching, where he coached golf, basketball, and track. He was especially honored to receive the RHS Athletic Hall of Fame award in 2015. Bob came from a large family of 7 children.
