Tom J. Gustafson
Tom J. Gustafson Jan. 9, 1955 - Jan. 21, 2019 Tom Gustafson was born Jan. 9, 1955 in Columbus, Neb. At 64 years of age, Tom passed away at his home in Gresham, Ore., Jan. 21, 2019 after a long battle with cancer. Tom married the love of his life, Carolyn Tallmon in 1977 and they were married for 42 years. Tom was strong, caring, devoted and deeply loved by his family. Tom's greatest passions were hockey, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Tom played and coached in PAHA and later founded the Portland Junior Hawks. He coached a bantam team to nationals in Michigan and later coached another team to a state championship. He was honored to have a son who played in the NHL and the other who is currently assistant GM and associate coach for the Portland Winterhawks. Tom also worked in the mortgage industry up to his passing. If he wasn't on the river fishing, you could find him supporting his grandchildren at music recitals, the baseball field, inside a hockey rink, or other sporting activities. Tom was preceded in death by father and mother, Oscar and Helen Gustafson; brother-in-law, Dwayne Tofell. Tom is survived by wife, Carolyn; sons, Derek and Kyle; daughters-in-law, Emily and Tonya; grandchildren, Parker, Campbell, Wyatt, Sawyer, Callum and Charlotte; sister, Jane Tofell. At Tom's request there will be no funeral but a celebration of life in his honor. The family will be contacting those who would like to attend at a later date.
