Lemuel J. Bell Sr.
Lemuel J. "Lem" Bell Sr., 78, of Delmont, passed away peacefully Monday, Jan., 7, 2019, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. He was born March 14, 1940, in Chicago, a son of the late Lemuel B. and Ruth (Moore) Bell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jason M. Bell; and sister, Anna Mae. Lem was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Prior to retiring, he was employed as a nuclear training engineer by Westinghouse. He was a retired Navy senior chief petty officer, submarine service. Lem was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Export, where he served as a lecturer. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus, Manordale, Faith in Action, Meals on Wheels and Slickville American Legion Post 18. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Arlene (Cassidy) Bell; three sons, Lemuel J. Bell Jr. (Julie), Jeffrey A. Bell and Aaron Bell (Shelley); brothers, Harold Bell (Linda) and Millard Bell (Martha); sister, Tina Brodrick (Patrick); and a number of nieces and nephews. Lem was the proud grandfather of Lori (Felipe), Gregory and Riley, all of whom will especially miss him. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC., 463 Athena Drive, Delmont, 724-468-1177. A funeral Mass for Lem will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 5900 Kennedy Ave., Export, with Father Efren Ambre as celebrant. Interment with full military honors accorded by VFW Post 33 Honor Guard, Greensburg, will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lem's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
