In memory of
James C. Henchey
James C. Henchey, 61 James C. Henchey, formerly of Westerleigh, passed away at his home in Troy, N.Y., on Jan. 2, 2019. Cherished son of the late Michael and Mary E. Henchey, he was born in the Bronx and grew up in Westerleigh. Jim worked as a manager at various Pathmark Supermarket stores on Staten Island. Following his relocation to upstate New York in the late 1980s, he embarked on a lengthy career with the New York State Comptroller's Office, working in the State Employee Retirement System before retiring. In his free time, Jim enjoyed music, travel, fishing, exploring the outdoors, and following his favorite professional sports teams. A gentle soul, he was a free spirit and fiercely independent, living his life without compromise and according to his own rules. His family and loved ones will miss his infectious laughter, his endless catalog of hilarious stories, his ancestral Irish wit, and his clever sense of humor. Jim was beloved by his surviving siblings, Anne (Collins), Margaret (DeRosa), Terence, and Joseph, and he was a loving and devoted uncle to Deirdre, Elizabeth, Megan, Michael , and Connor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10 at Holy Family Church, 366 Watchogue Road, Staten Island, N.Y. 10314. Interment will immediately follow at St. Peter's Cemetery and will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
