Heather S. Forbes, 89 Lifelong Staten Islander who traveled to Europe and Asia Heather S. Forbes of New Dorp, 89, a lifelong Staten Islander, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, in Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze. Born Heather Sheard, she lived in various Staten Island communities before moving to New Dorp in 1962. She also maintained a second residence on Lake Wallenpaupack, Pa. She was a graduate of New Dorp High School and was active in several clubs. Mrs. Forbes was an active member of the Camp Fire Girls as a youth, enrolled in Mei-ling Chapter of the Senior Camp Fire Horizon Club. One of her highlights occurred in June, 1943, meeting with Madame Chiang Kai-shek, namesake of the chapter. Mrs. Forbes was employed in a laboratory operated by her father, Lawrence Sheard, in Mariners Harbor, until her marriage. Some of her favorite hobbies included gardening, reading and travel, including regular trips to the U.K. visiting relatives, trips to several European countries, and the Far East, including Mainland China. Mrs. Forbes was a parishioner of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Richmond, and a member of the several local organizations, including the New Dorp Central Civic Association. Her husband, Robert C. Forbes, passed in 2009. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Viewing is today, Sunday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Hanley Funeral Home, New Dorp, with a Mass on Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. Arrangements include cremation.
