Marc Leon May 18, 1941 - Nov. 23, 2018 Marc Leon passed away of prostate cancer Nov. 23, 2018 in Portland. He was born May 19, 1941 in Pittsburg, Pa., to Louis and Lela Leon (Laepse). When Marc was five, he and his family moved to Bakersfield, Calif., where he spent his childhood, eventually graduating from Bakersfield High School. After high school, Marc served in the United States Air Force for four years. Later he went on to get a degree in math and computer science, one from Fresno State and the other Portland State. After college, he married Elisa Cole on Aug. 13, 1977 and they remained married until his death. Marc had many hobbies and passions, one of them being the outdoors. He was an avid rock and mountain climber, you could find him hiking around Mt. St. Helens during the summer, he even climbed to the top of Mt. Hood! He taught himself how to ski and enjoyed doing cross country and downhill aspects of the sport. He also loved to snow shoe. When he wasn't doing something outside, Marc spent his downtime reading and it became one of his favorite things to do to relax. Relaxing was something he found in traveling, more specifically taking cruises. He and Elisa went on many of them, going to places such as Alaska, the Caribbean, Hawaii, the Panama Canal, the Galapagos Islands and even Antarctica! In addition to his love of traveling, he excelled at dancing, learning to become a great ballroom dancer. He was a beloved member of the Mac Club and the Oregon Nordic Club. Survivors in include his wife, Elisa; a daughter, Amie Leon; his sister, Michele Scharmach; and many other family members and dear friends. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, at Finley Sunset Hills Mortuary, 6801 S.W. Sunset Hwy., Portland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
