James Waldron Arnold
Arnold, James Waldron Of Shorewood, passed away on Friday December 21, in hospice, surrounded by his loving children. The patriarch of our family, he will be dearly missed. He was born on July 7, 1929, in Yonkers, NY, to David J. and Helen (Waldron) Arnold. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Joan Arnold, granddaughter Alma Maleckar Bear and his beloved wife Gerry Lee Arnold. He was a proud graduate of Marquette University College of Journalism (1951), where he met Gerry, the love of his life and his future wife and partner of 56 years. Jim worked as a journalist for newspapers in Sacramento and Madera, CA before beginning his long career as a journalism and film professor, starting at Creighton University in Omaha and then for 35 years on the faculty of the College of Communication at Marquette University. He was also well known as a movie critic, publishing a syndicated column in the national Catholic Press, as well as specific movie review columns in the Milwaukee Journal (Insight Magazine) and St. Anthony Messenger. His film classes at Marquette were legendary, particularly among the post WWII "film generation."
