In memory of
Doran Alan Lydick passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018 at the age of 71. A "Celebration of Life" will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12 at Silver's at The Wharf in the lounge from 1 to 4 p.m. Doran loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and horseback riding. He was always generous with his catch and many enjoyed his gift of fresh salmon or his fabulous smoked salmon. He attended Chico State University then he went on to teach science in Southern California for a few years. When a teaching position became available at the Fort Bragg Middle School, he applied and was hired. He was so happy to get back to the area where he was born and raised. Shortly after, he took a position in the science department at Fort Bragg High School where he taught science and chemistry until he retired in 2006. His teaching career gave him the opportunity to inspire his students academically and personally, making connections that would last a lifetime. He is survived by his loving wife, Jill McCullough Lydick; their daughter, Lancia Smith; and precious granddaughter, Presley Smith who was his heart and soul; his mother, Carmel Gomes; sister, Melanie (Sis) Burdick; brothers, Delmer Lydick and Dewey Johnson; and many others. Those wishing to honor his life can make donations in his name to the Fort Bragg Volunteer Fire Department. For those who may not know, back in 2001, Curt Tubbs, a fireman of Fort Bragg Fire Department, saved his life on the racquetball court when Doran suffered a cardiac arrest in the middle of their game. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
