Joan C. Mekal
Joan C. Mekal passed away on November 21, 2018 at East Village Place in East Longmeadow. The daughter of Charles and Rhea (Beaudry) Goodhind, Joan was born on May 19, 1932 in Holyoke and moved to Chicopee shortly after her marriage to Ed Mekal where together they raised their sons, Jeff, Chris, and Gregg who died in 1998. Joan and Ed later moved to West Springfield. In addition to her husband of 65 years and two sons, Joan leaves her sister Patricia Boissonneault of Naples, Florida (Jules Boissonneault, deceased); daughters-in-law Tracy Mekal and Mitcheline Mekal; Chris’s partner Gilles Quintal; granddaughters Lauren and Stephanie; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Joan enjoyed many years of travel with family and friends, especially when a beach was involved. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Joan’s life and to share stories at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2019 at The Log Cabin, 500 Easthampton Road, Holyoke. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Western Mass, 264 Cottage Street, Springfield, MA 01104 or online at alz.org .
