Theresa R. Gates
Theresa R. “Terry” (Nelson) Gates, 89, died peacefully Tuesday afternoon in Baystate Medical Center. Terry was born and raised in Springfield, was a 1946 graduate of Technical High School and moved to Feeding Hills in 1970. She worked for 43 years as a Supervisor for Rexnord Corporation in Springfield. She also was a 25-year past president of the Steel Workers Union in Springfield. A communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Feeding Hills, Theresa was an avid bowler and golfer and played in numerous leagues in the area. She also was an Artist and has many drawings on display at the Agawam Public Library. She leaves her sister Sarah “Sally” Kuras and her husband Chester; a brother Herbert F. Nelson; brother-in-law John Chumra; nieces and nephews James Nelson, Joseph Kuras, Tamara Ramenda and Audrey Cushing. She was predeceased by a sister Rita Chumra, brother Donald E. Nelson and recently her sister-in-law Maureen Rizzoli. The family would like to thank the staff on Baystate’s Daly, 5th floor for the special care given her during this time. The funeral will be held at the Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home Saturday at 9:30am with Liturgy in Sacred Heart Church, 1061 Springfield Street, Feeding Hills, at 10:30am followed by burial in Springfield Street Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held prior to the Mass on Saturday morning from 9:30 – 10:00am. For more details please visit curranjones.com .
