Thomas V. Cardamona
Thomas V. Cardamona Yonkers - Thomas Vincent Cardamona passed away in his home on Dec 4, 2018 surrounded by family. Loving husband of 65 years to the late Dolores Alice Cardamona (Mahan). Beloved father of five children, Liz Cardamona Burkhardt (John), Thomas Cardamona, Laura Cardamona Bonci, Robert Cardamona (Margaret) and Rosemarie Fanelli (Mark) and seven grandchildren, Alex, Joelle, Michael, Matthew, James, Kathryn, and Victoria and sister Monica Macchi. Thomas entered the Army Airforce in October 1942 at the age of 19. He served at a tail gunner during WWII on a Flying Fortress with the Eighth Air Force and flew 28 missions. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action over Germany in the European Theater of operations when his B-17 Bomber crash landed at the mouth of the Thames River on February 11, 1944. He was released from active duty on October 12, 1945 with the grade of Staff Sargent and also received three Bronze Stars, the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal and the European Theater of Operations Campaign Ribbon. Thomas graduated from Commerce High School and worked at Otis Elevator as a machinist. After his retirement, he found joy in spending time with his family, watching the Giants, playing with his grandchildren, and singing in the choir at Christ the King Church. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Thursday 4-7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Christ the King Church on Friday December 7th at 10am.
