Melvin B. Roth
Melvin B. Roth, 97, of Camp Hill, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by family and close friends on Friday, November 23, 2018, at Messiah Lifeways in Mechanicsburg, PA. Born to Edna M. (Metzger) and Blassius L. Roth on September 15, 1921 in New Tripoli, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of Allentown High School's Class of 1939 and served in the US Army Signal Corps in both the European and Southwest Pacific theaters during World War II. He married his high school sweetheart, Marian L. "Mitzi" Hinkle, in Christ Lutheran Church, Allentown on March 14, 1943. He is prececeased by his parents, his loving wife, Marian Louise, his daughter, Linda Bone, and brother, Wayne F. Roth of Green Bay, Wisconsin. After 38 years of service, Melvin retired from Bell Atlantic Telephone Company. In his post retirement, he enjoyed serving as a volunteer for CONTACT, in addition to 11 years as a tax preparer for H&R Block and served more than 20 years as an AARP volunteer tax preparer. He is survived by his children, Michael V. Roth of Philadelphia and David S. Roth of Fort Collins, CO and his grandchildren, Carter L. Ellis of Mechanicsburg, PA, Michael R. Roth of Philadelphia, PA, Jennifer M. Fierman of Oakton, VA and Zoe Roth and Samuel Roth of Fort Collins, CO, and seven great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Roth, Tyler Roth, Blake Roth and Mason and Max Roth of Philadelphia and Lee Fierman and Brandon Fierman of Oakton, VA. Melvin was a life member of the Order of DeMolay and was made a Master Mason in the Greenleaf Lodge #561 in Allentown, PA in April 1946. He later went on to become a 32nd Degree Mason in Harrisburg. A memorial service will be held Monday, December 10, 2018, in the Chapel at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2000 Chestnut Street, Camp Hill, PA with Pastor Jack Horner officiating. There will be a reception at 10:00 a.m. and service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. Arrangements by Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Inc., Harrisburg. Contributions in Melvin's memory may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Hospice of Central Pennsylvania. www.pennlive.com/obits
