Esther Bryant White Plains - Esther Mary Bryant, age 87, died on Monday, December 3, 2018 at her home in Stratford, Conn. She was born in Cumbola, Pa., on April 4, 1931 to John and Elizabeth Ballantine and was the oldest of two children. Esther grew up in Philadelphia, and in 1952 at the age of 21 she enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, becoming one of the nation's first female Marine Corps Reservists. Esther married Charles R. Bryant on February 1, 1958 and concluded her Marine Corps service that same year. After relocating to White Plains, she raised six children and two grandchildren. Esther spent many years working in the Westchester County Personnel Office and concluded her career in an administrative role at Westchester Community College. Esther moved to Connecticut to be closer to her children and grandchildren and retired from the college in 2012. She will be remembered as being an extremely kind and generous soul who always put others' needs ahead of her own. Esther enjoyed sharing stories about her husband and children, a symbol of her undying love for family. Left to honor Esther and remember her love are her sister, Marie Ballantine; five surviving children: Mark Bryant, Jeff (Laura) Bryant, Kevin Bryant, Erik (Natalie) Bryant, and Jennifer (Guy) Falotico; five surviving grandchildren: Tim, Kayleah, Sean, CJ and Ali; a grandson by marriage: Eddy; and two great-grandchildren: Eddy Jr. and Vanna. Esther was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Charles Jr., and granddaughter Christina. The family will greet friends at McMahon, Lyon & Hartnett Funeral Home in White Plains on Thursday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral services will be held at St. Bernard's Church in White Plains on Friday at 1 pm. Burial will follow at Kensico Cemetery.
