John Edward Silva
John Edward Silva Loving son to family, friends and NYCPD John Edward Silva, loving son to family, friends and NYCPD. Born on Staten Island in Saint Vincent's Hospital on Jan. 16, 1962, John passed away peacefully of a massive heart attack on Dec. 2, 2018. He graduated from Msgr. Farrell High School and attended St. John's University. While in high school, John worked for Marty's Shoes, at Majors and, after graduation, he was the company's youngest store manager. He joined the NYPD in 1982 and after retirement he was a ship chandler, then later became a U.S. Coast Guard Certified Ship Captain. He loved the water and enjoyed taking Nikko, his Akita, on his boat. John enjoyed traveling and also enjoyed the company of his many friends and relatives. He was famous for his sense of humor and his corny jokes. He is survived by his mother, Gloria Carangelo Silva, and was predeceased by his dad, John Borgess Silva, seven years ago. He is survived by Lisa, the love of his life, as he put it, "she was my friend, my love, my life, my wife (through eternity)." His aunts and uncles, Joan Rybacki, Evie and Frank Rocco, special friends, Mike and Yolanda Padilla, Ray and Joyce Carangelo, Bob and Helen Carangelo, Bill and Joanna Carangelo, Joe and Grace Silva, Millie Weaver and his many, many cousins, a daughter, Gabriella, and granddaughter, Faith Marie. John was a member of Patrolmen's Benevolent Association of NYC, Police Dept. Columbia Assoc NYC and 3rd Degree member of Knights of Columbus Henry Stolzenthaler Council 1675. Visitation is Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 2819 Hylan Blvd (corner of Tysens Lane). Funeral service is Thursday at 12 noon from Colonial Funeral Home.
