PORT HUENEME, Calif. - Gertrude Verbrugge Muse, 92, died on Nov. 17, 2018 in Port Hueneme, Calif. She was born in the Netherlands in the IJsselmonde area near Rotterdam. She emigrated to the US in 1928 with her parents, Martin and Lena Verbrugge, and her older brother James. her younger brother Frank, who survives her, was born after her family settled in northern New Jersey. Gertrude was the loving mother of eight children: daughters Linda Muse-Deo, Tina Reynolds and Debra Laibach, sons Glenn, Kenneth, Robert and Paul. She was predeceased by her son Mark in 2000; and her husband George in 2013. She had 13 grandchildren; Robb, Melissa, Stephanie, David, Heather, Seth, Vanessa, Ilea, Christopher, Shane, Nicholas, Leslie and Haili and 10 great-grandchildren. Gertrude lived in New Jersey with her husband George and their family until 1970 when they moved to Acton. She later moved to California to live with her daughter Tina who lovingly cared for her until her death. Gertrude was an active member of the Sanford congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and continued her affiliation after her move to California. Gertrude was known for her caring personality and the love she had for her family. She will be sincerely missed by family and friends.Burial will take place at Preakness Reformed Church Cemetery in Wayne, N.J. near her husband George. Memorial services will be held in the spring.
