Linton Doherty Millett
Linton Doherty Millett 1920 - 2018 ELIOT - Linton Doherty Millett passed peacefully on Nov. 27, at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough. He was born in Mexico, Maine, to Brigadier General Robert P. Millett and Lillian Doherty Millett. He was the loving husband of Georgia (Scribner) Millett for 76 years. He was predeceased by his parents; three brothers Edward, Robert Jr., Ralph, and sister Lila Brown.Linton graduated from Buckfield High School and joined the U.S. Army in 1942. He served in the Southwest Pacific Theatre until 1945. He continued service in the Army Reserve where he held many positions. His last position prior to retirement in 1980 was with Special Forces as First Sgt. of Physical Security.Linton worked for many years for Maine Central RR in Bangor. He was chief dispatcher for Fox & Ginn Inc. for 17 years. He retired in 2008 from the Maine Turnpike Authority after 25 years of service. He was a member of the VFW and the Masons. Linton was also an active member of the Thornton Heights Methodist Church, holding several positions over the years. He and his wife lived in South Portland for many years prior to moving to Scarborough.Linton loved to talk, entertaining friends and family for hours at a time with his many great stories. Family reunions were always especially important to him. He was a kind-hearted man with a special fondness for all animals. He loved feeding and watching birds. Lyn always was willing to help friends and neighbors no matter what it involved.He is survived by his wife, Georgia of Eliot; daughter, Rhonda & partner, Jim Newcomer of Eliot, son, Kenneth Millett and wife, Paulette of Cape Coral, Fla.; grandchildren, Sharon Lunt of Greene, Kenneth Millett Jr. of Saco, Craig Millett of Biddeford; and six great-grandchildren. His family would especially like to thank the staff at the Maine Veterans Home for their kindness and loving care during his time there. Visitation will be 11-12 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 12 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8, at Thornton Heights United Methodist Church, 100 Westbrook Street, South Portland.
