In memory of
October Clarke Craig
October Clarke Craig died on November 10, 2018 in hospice at the age of 72 from complications related to multiple sclerosis. October was the devoted wife of Peter Craig, a loving sister and aunt, and a loyal friend to so many. She often provided loving support to others in times of need, and was an especially good listener. October was an eloquent speaker and writer. Her beloved church community was the central focus of her life and she was deeply involved in the Unity on the River church in Amesbury, Massachusetts for the past fifteen years, where she was a chaplain. She was also very active at a Unitarian Universalist church in the 1990s, including youth programs. She was truly cherished by her community and a force of positivity for so many whose lives she touched. She was an inspiration to all for the example she set in facing adversity. October was born in New York City. The family moved to Ridgewood, New Jersey, when she was 7, where later she attended Ridgewood High School. As an adolescent, October helped care for her mother after her mother was paralyzed by polio. October earned a BA in English from Ohio Wesleyan University. She had a successful career in the publishing industry, working for Fleming H. Revell, Prentice Hall, and Addison-Wesley, and was later self-employed as an editor, writer, and marketing consultant. October moved to Boston in 1979, where she met her husband Peter in 1984. They lovingly shared their lives for 34 years, living in Hudson, NH, Hollis, NH, and, most recently, in Kensington, NH. She was predeceased by her parents: John H. Clarke and Lorraine Woodruff Clarke of Ridgewood, NJ, and by her brother John Timothy Clarke of Dallas, TX. She is survived by her husband Peter William Craig, her brother Christopher MacFarland Clarke and his wife Meredith, several sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on November 10th at 1 p.m. at Unity on the River church in Amesbury, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tisch MS Research Center of New York, 521 West 57th Street, New York, NY 10019. (www. tischms.org ).
