Betty Pilger Las Vegas, NV - Betty Pilger died peacefully with family and friends on September 7, 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada, where she was living at Las Ventanas Assisted Living Facility. Betty Jane Pilger was born August 22, 1919 to William Lierman and Filipino Hoffman in Snyder, Nebraska. Her family moved to Beverly Hills, California in the mid 1920's where her father, William was a custom home builder in the West Los Angeles area. She graduated from Beverly Hill High School in 1936, and UCLA with a B.S. in accounting in 1939, where she met and married Dr. Theodore W Pilger a recent USC graduate. She worked as the dental assistant and office manager for her husbands orthodontic practice in Van Nuys California for over 20 years, and was involved in local civic organizations, including as an officer of the Encino Women's Club in the 1950's. She enjoyed travel, cooking, and architecture and built the family home in Tarzana, California in 1957. She and her husband spent holidays in Palm Springs beginning in 1949 and purchased "The Foothills" a five unit motel adjacent to Korakia on Patencio road in 1963 where they ultimately moved, and managed upon their retirement in 1980. They remodeled the motel into a small condominium complex for family and friends in 1984. She was always active in Palm Springs life and worked as manager of the See's candy store on Palm Canyon Dr in the 1980's, and was a senior board member of The Assistance League Palm Springs Desert Area, and volunteered as staff at the Leagues' store on Ramon Road in Cathedral City. Betty was a long time member of Desert Chapel church on Sunrise Rd. and was preceded in death by her older sister, La Ville Malcomb, who also lived at "The Foothills" and by her husband in 2000. She continued her civic involvement by being a founding and active member of the Palm Springs Historic Tennis Club Neighborhood Association up until 2014. She is survived by her two sons, Dr Robert Pilger of Gig Harbor, WA and Paul Pilger of Las Vegas, Nevada, and grandson Mark Pilger of Everett, WA and granddaughter Erica Pilger of Denver, Colorado. There will be a memorial with her family on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at noon at The Foot Hills, 221 South Patencio Road, Palm Springs, CA.
