Lloyd Gaylord Minneapolis, MN - December 25, 1924 - August 26, 2018 Lloyd Gaylord was born on Christmas Day, 1924 in Glenwood, IA where he grew up working on his parents' farm. As a boy he hunted and trapped animals for food and spending money, but also tamed a raccoon and a fox as pets. Lloyd graduated from Tabor High School in 1942 and received a $50 scholarship to Tarkio College in Missouri. Afterward he attended Northwest Missouri State Teachers College and then Midshipmen's School in Chicago. He was commissioned Ensign, enlisted, and was assigned to the USS Tulagi in the South Pacific. After the war, Lloyd used the GI Bill to attend Iowa State University where he received a BS in engineering and met his wife-to-be, Frances Mae Fisher. Lloyd started work at Eli Lilli & Co. in Indianapolis, IN in 1949 where worked for nearly 37 years, retiring in 1985. Outside the office, Lloyd and Fran were active member of the YMCA, helping raise money to fund the construction of Arthur R. Baxter Memorial YMCA in 1965. Lloyd was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, camping, and rock collecting. He was also a skilled wood carver. In retirement, Lloyd and Fran traveled the country in their RV, visiting their children and bird watching. They also birded in many countries around the world. Lloyd is survived by six children, eight grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
