Federico Ortiz Jr. Sandia , TX Federico Ortiz Jr. 69 years of age passed away on Friday November 2, 2018. Federico was born June 13, 1949 in Sandia to Federico and Elvira Avalos Ortiz. Federico retired from Civil Service. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam conflict. Federico, which most knew him as Fred, Dad, Uncle Fred, and grandpa Fred. He graduated High School and soon after joined the Air Force. He left the Air Force as a Sergeant with just shy of four years of service, 367 days of which, were served overseas. He continued a life of service through the means of various Civil Service positions resulting in multiple decades of sacrifice and devotion to his country. Fred was well known for his cooking ability, cowboy ways, immaculate truck interiors, and for his love of fishing, biking, dancing, and the outdoors. Moreover, he was known for his dedication and commitment to the care of his father, which he did so unwaveringly for more than 15 years after his retirement. He had an amazing ability to mix sarcasm with humor to deliver life lessons and smart jabs. With his arms crossed and his foot tapping, Fred, would not hesitate to tell you how it was as he saw it. Fred's love for his family was a staple in his life. He would always be waiting by the gate, ready to greet his children and grandchildren with open arms and a smile. Soon after, heartfelt conversations and great food would follow. There was never a time when he would not drop what he was doing to embrace his loving family. In his memory, we ask you take a lesson from his book, life is too short to hold onto meaningless moments, but instead embrace those that build and bind you. He was preceded in death by his father, Federico Ortiz Sr. Survivors include four sons Jesse Gutierrez of Houston, Texas, Federico (Shayna) Ortiz III of Orange Grove, Texas, Joseph Ortiz of Dallas, Texas, Alexander Ortiz of Houston, Texas, Two daughters Sherri (Robert) OKeefe of Victoria, Texas, Melissa (Timothy) Rifenbery of Fort Benning, Georgia, five brothers Armando (Yole) Ortiz of Sandia, Texas, Blas ( Maria) Ortiz of San Antonio, Texas, Richard Ortiz of Odem, Texas, Victor Ortiz Sandia, Texas and Sammy (Jill) Ortiz of Sandia, Texas and three sisters Maggie(Tom) Vasquez of Corpus Christi, Texas, Celia ( Ruben) Barrientes and Liz Ramon both of Sandia, Texas 12 grandchildren numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday November 7, 2018 at Rosas Funeral Home with a Rosary recited at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church of Orange Grove, Texas. Burial will follow at the Coastal Bend Veteran Cemetery of Corpus Christi with military honors. Rosas Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements
