Donald Richmond Brieger, MD Fair Oaks Ranch, TX Donald Richmond Brieger, MD, of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas, passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday, October 29, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joyce Ann, his two sons, Clay (Kimberly) and Duane (Marylou), five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Donald was born in Taylor, Texas on February 16, 1933 to Gussie and Ethel Brieger. They preceded him in death as well as his brother Eugene. He is survived by his brother Gerald. Donald grew up in Taylor and graduated from high school in 1949. He attended the University of Texas in Austin until his studies were interrupted by the Korean War. He enlisted at age 18 and served as a medic in Korea. Donald received the Bronze and Silver Star medals for his bravery. After the war, he returned to his studies at UT and graduated with a BBA. He married his hometown sweetheart, Joyce Ann, in 1955. He worked as an industrial engineer at Alcoa from 1956 to 1960. He returned to school once more to study medicine at UT Galveston Medical School, where he graduated in three years with honors. Now a family of four, they moved to Corpus Christi where Donald was a general practitioner from 1965 to 1968. They then moved to Dallas where Donald completed a three-year residency in radiology. They moved back to Corpus, where Donald joined Radiology Associates, working there from 1971 to 1996. In retirement, Donald and Joyce moved to Fair Oaks Ranch. Donald helped start Hill Country Mission for Health in Boerne, and served on the board for 10 years. He also volunteered on some international medical mission trips. Throughout his life, he was always involved in outdoor activities with his family that included skiing, tennis, golf, and fishing. In addition, he enjoyed ranching, hunting and gardening. Donald and Joyce traveled throughout the United States in their motor home. They are active members of St. Helena's Episcopal Church in Boerne. Donald is remembered as a selfless and caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend. A celebration of his life will be held at St. Helena's on Friday, November 9th at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Helena's or to Hill Country Mission for Health.
