Leo Louis Bazinet
AUGUSTA - Leo Louis Bazinet, 82, of Augusta, died peacefully in his sleep in his home on Oct. 5, 2018.He was born on Feb. 9, 1936 in Fall River, Mass.Leo lived an active, full life and was well loved wherever he went. He served in the Marine Corps as a young man, playing saxophone, clarinet and oboe in the Marine Corps Band. He went on to play in Tony Pastor's Orchestra, a jazz band that took him across the country playing music that he loved.Leo moved to Maine in 1970 and became involved in law enforcement. He served on the Winthrop and Hallowell police departments before being elected sheriff of Kennebec County from 1976 through 1984. Leo went on to work as a security officer at the, then, Kennebec Valley Medical Center. Leo will be remembered fondly by his Maine General family and their bus rides will never be the same.Leo's pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. He will be missed greatly by his daughter, Leslie Beattie and her husband, Donald of Topsham, ME; his son, Kevin Bazinet of Chelsea, ME; his daughter Courtney Bazinet of Boston, MA and his daughter, Caitlin Bazinet and her partner Adam Trott of Augusta, ME. He will be sorely missed by his granddaughters, Tameka, Jolee and Elvia Beattie of Topsham, ME.Leo is survived by his two sisters, Annette Collura and Cecil Moniz of Fall River, Mass.Leo is predeceased by his wife, Brenda Bazinet, his brother, Raymond Bazinet of Somerset, MA and his parents, Leo and Rose Bazinet of Fall River, Mass.A celebration of Leo's life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 12-5 p.m., at Le Club Calumet in Augusta, Maine.Arrangements are by Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner where condolences, memories and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the website: www.familyfirstfuneralhomes.com .In lieu of flowers, donations may be made toFamily Violence ProjectP.O.
