James Willcox
JAMES WILLCOX 1954 - 2018 NORWICH - It is with great sadness that James "Jim" Willcox, affectionately referred to as "Mr. Jim", born January 7, 1954 to the late Raymond and Doris (Greene) Willcox, passed away at age 64 on October 10 following a courageous battle with cancer at Backus Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was recently retired from the Norwich Public Schools system, after more than 20 years of service as a custodian, where he loved interacting with the staff and students. Equipped with a rare gift for knowing the perfect words to say in stressful times, he used his wit and wisdom to make others at ease. Jim was always there to help when asked, and always there to calm troubled waters. An avid collector, he proudly displayed his treasures and had an incomparable enthusiasm for finding new and unusual items, especially toys and cookie jars. The truest passion of his was for nature and anything outdoors. His land is his legacy and he will be remembered with every tree that grows and every flower that blooms. He is survived by his wife of 30 years Nancy (Burns), his children, Holly and Jeremy, his wife Elizabeth, granddaughter Caroline, brother David, and sister Trudy and her husband Tom Edwards, and many nieces and nephews. Jim will now be joining his beloved sister, Roberta, and his brothers, Charles and William in eternal peace. A special thank you from our family to the nurses and staff at Backus Hospital for their diligence and compassion in helping Jim receive treatment. Their kindness and hard work helped in a time that we needed it most. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, October 16 from 5p.m.-7p.m. at Woyasz & Son funeral home on 141 Central Ave in Norwich.
