Freida Piland Haskell, TX Freida Piland, 96, passed away Friday, October 5, at the Haskell Healthcare Center. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 8, 2018, at the East Side Baptist Church in Haskell with Revs. Kirk Watson and Terry Bunch officiating. Burial will be in Willow Cemetery, directed by Adams-Graham Funeral Home of Anson. Her body will lie in state at the Smith Family Funeral Home in Haskell Sunday, October 7, 2018 from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. Family visitation will be Monday, October 8, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at East Side Baptist Church in Haskell. Born June 24, 1922 in Haskell, Freida was a daughter of the late Elbert and Floy (Atchinson) Mapes. Freida married M. C. Piland July 4, 1942 in Haskell. She was a member of the East Side Baptist Church where she enjoyed fellowship with friends in the Gleaners Class. Freida and M. C. returned to Haskell in 1987 after retiring from the grocery store business as owners/operators of the Highland Food Store in Abilene. Freida was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (M. C. Piland), two infant daughters (Trina Helen Piland and Etta Lee Piland); one sister (Wanda Newton); and two brothers (Bob Mapes and Gene Mapes). Survivors include a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. The whole family loved their "Aunt Freida".
