Robert E. Burns
Robert E. Burns, of Newington, beloved husband of Patricia (Baker) Burns for 59 years, died on Thursday, September 20, 2018. Born in Hartford on September 11, 1930, he was the son of the late John F. Burns and Margaret (Moran) Burns. Robert was a loving and devoted husband and a magnificent grandfather. He enjoyed a successful career at Aetna Life & Casualty, retiring in 1987 as Assistant Secretary in the Group Pension Dept. He was a former member of the Aetna Men's Club, serving as Vice President. He was also a former member of the Zoning Commission in Newington, where he resided for over 55 years. He was an alumnus of St. Augustine's School and Bulkeley High School in Hartford. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Susan Landers and Mark of Columbia, CT, Karen Burns of Encinitas, CA and Barbara Burns of Melbourne, FL, and three grandchildren, Sean and Jake Brunelle and Kelly Landers. He is also survived by one brother, Brian Burns of West Hartford, three sisters-in-law, Blanche Burns of Enfield, Joyce Baker, CJS of West Hartford, and Linda Baker of Kaplan, LA, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, John F. Burns and William Burns, a brother-in-law, Jesse W. Baker, a sister-in-law, Elisabeth Pellegrino and two nephews, Anthony Pellegrino and Tobey Mallet. Robert had a wonderful zest for life; he was an avid Yankee fan, an opera and classical music lover and had enjoyed spending time on the golf course with his buddies. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 29th, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 626 Willard Ave., Newington. Burial will be private. Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington is serving his family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, 27 Park Rd., West Hartford, CT 06119.
