Earl J. Thigpen Sr. May 31, 1931 - September 1, 2018 Poway Earl J. Thigpen Sr., 87, passed away at Daybreak Villa Retirement on the night of September 1, 2018, after battling squamous cell carcinoma. He was born on May 31, 1931, in Waskom, TX, to Jodie and Vinnes (Courville) Thigpen. His family moved to Shreveport, LA in 1942. Earl joined the US Navy at age 17, and served for four years. He went to Billings, MT in 1954 and worked as a roughneck in the oil fields. He became a tile/floor layer and moved to Riverside, CA in 1962 before moving to Poway, CA in 1969. He enjoyed lake fishing, bowling and riding motorcycles in the deserts. He retired in 1986 and stepped up to help babysit most of his grandchildren. He loved to go fishing at Lake Poway and Lake Wohlford. He adored his grandchildren and attended all the family celebrations, holidays and sporting events until December '15 due to COPD. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his wife, Alma Thigpen, of Poway, CA; daughter, Sue Brennen, of Carlsbad; son, Earl Thigpen Jr. (Desirae) of Murietta; daughter, Jill Vincent (Randy) of Ramona; sisters, Kathleen Boyd and JoAnn Keller of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren, Heather Frickman (Michael), Noah Rawls (Kim), Remy Thigpen, Nick Vincent (Jaclyn) and Christopher Vincent (Taylor); and great-grandchildren, Taylor, Reese, Roan, Paige, Tatum, Jack, Carrie, Carson and Hazel. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Thigpen; and son-in-law, Richard Brennen. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Earl's memory to Elizabeth Hospice.
