In memory of
Myron Gowans
Myron Anthony (Buddy, Reds, Captain) Gowans, 90, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, August 29, 2018, surrounded by loving family. Myron, born in Washington, D.C., was the son of Myron Anthony Gowans, Sr., and Anna Alverta Beattie. While in high school, he fudged his age to join the U.S. Navy during WWII, and helped protect the United States from German U Boats in the Atlantic Theatre. Returning home, he became a Washington, DC Firefighter with the #2 Truck, #9 and #16 Engines, and the #3 Rescue Squad. As a "Friend of Bill's" for more than 45 years, he was most gracious in his dedication and service to others. Myron's love of the sea was contagious; he enjoyed taking everyone on his boat the "Anna A" for fun and fishing. On land he played golf and always wanted to know your handicap. He shot pool with the best, and could always spin a good yarn. As a devout Catholic, Myron was a member of St. Francis deSales Catholic Church in Kilmarnock, VA and St. Paul's in Leesburg, FL, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Myron is survived by his wife of 48 years, Margaret Ellen Gowans; his sister Laura Rodarte; his daughters Myra Gowans, Delours (Delly) Scott, Marian Gowans, Theresa Gowans, and predeceased by Kathleen (Kathy) Eaton, from his first marriage with Agnes Wheeler, deceased; his stepchildren Dolores Peck, Timothy and Matthew Martin; 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Myron's wishes for a simple service were to "Just put my ashes in the bay and think of me every time you eat crab". There will be a celebration of his life "Up Home" in Whiteford, MD at a later date. Memorial Donations may be made to the Retired Firefighters Association of Washington, DC or Lake County Florida in his memory.
