Franklin L. "Bud" Johnson 1920—2018 Franklin L. "Bud" Johnson, 98, of Rockford, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2018. He was born September 5, 1920, in Rockford, Illinois, the son of Leonard and Anna (Heikes) Johnson. Bud was a graduate of Central High School, Class of 1938. He proudly served his country in the Unites states Army and fought in the final, great battle of Okinawa. Married Doris Tilley on January 28, 1961. She preceded him in death on May 4, 1983. He was a lifelong resident of Rockford and a member of the American Legion Post #1207. An ode to an old veteran, "If we cannot do him honor, While he is here to hear the praise. Then at least let's give him homage at the ending of his days, perhaps just a simple headline in the paper that might say, Our Country is in mourning, an Old soldier passed away." Author unknown. Survived by his nieces, Dianne Kammerer and Madelaine (Gary) Giardini; great-nephews, Jeffrey Kammerer, Donald (Kris) Kammerer Jr., Bradley Kammerer; great-nieces, Merissa (Brock) Lanier, Monica (Brian) Woodford; great-great nieces, Rachel and Payton Kammerer and Ava Lanier; great-great-nephews, Mason Lanier, Brody and Max Woodford. Predeceased by sister, Margaret (Ralph Carlson). Private family graveside services per Bud's wishes.
