Born April 11, 1936, in Belvidere to Nelson J. Cole and Gladys L. (Nelson) Cole. Mar: Norman R. Pedersen, 1960, Belvidere; div: 1972. Mar: Murray E. Nichols, Jr., 1983, St. Joseph MI. 1954, graduated Belvidere HS; 1958, BS, Vocal Ed. & Home Ec., Illinois State Univ., Normal IL; 1962, MS, Personnel Admin. & Counseling and Guidance, Southern Illinois Univ. Director, YWCA, St. Joseph MI; 1989-98, Consumer Assistant, Whirlpool Corp., Benton Harbor, MI. Maureen chose to participate rather than be a spectator in life. She was a leader: a high achiever, creative, organized, self-confident, outspoken, and a problem solver. She exercised precision in her choice of words and was a perfectionist. She drew upon these strengths in her professional and everyday life. Friends were important to her. From her first neighborhood friend, "Boo", her circle grew. She was a skilled communicator, who greeted people with warmth, interest, acceptance, thoughtfulness, and sincerity. She possessed an acute ability to listen to people and radiated a benevolent presence of presiding over interactions with them. Maureen loved her family, Murray's family, her hometown, her friends, popcorn, fishing, gardening, quilting, quilt retreats, and class reunions. As a tribute to Maureen (aka Puttz), her obit is late. Survivors: siblings, Jiles (Judy) Cole, Antigo WI; Joyce Cole, Longmont CO; nieces and nephews. Our special thank you to stepchildren, Jennifer Nichols Day, Ann Arbor, MI, and M. Eric Nichols, Califon, NJ, for their care of Maureen. Predeceased by parents, husband, and Pepper, her beloved Schnauzer. Generations Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Farmington Hills MI handled arrangements; burial, Belvidere Cemetery.
