GASTONIA - Margaret Jane Whitley Corinth, 85, passed away at home on Monday, September 10, 2018. She was born December 1, 1932 in Edgecomb County, NC, a daughter of the late Milton Hugh and Cora Jane Pittman Whitley. Margaret was a graduate of West Edgecomb High School where she played basketball and softball. She met Joe Corinth in Rocky Mount, NC and they married in 1953. After several moves, the family settled in Gastonia in 1972. Margaret retired from FMC Lithium Corp. after 25 years of service. Margaret was an active member of Stanley Pentecostal Holiness Church where she loved the Lord and her church family. She was an accomplished pianist and seamstress and enjoyed quilting in her later years. Margaret was a devoted wife and loving mother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Joseph Battle Corinth, a daughter, Margaret Jane Corinth, a son, Joseph Edward Corinth, sister, Lucille Eason, and by five brothers, Thurman, Randolph, Bill, David, and Ted Whitley. Surviving family members include her daughter, Patricia Anne Corinth of Gastonia; sister, Dorothy Langley of Newport NC, brother, M.H. "Jack" Whitley and wife Ann of Burlington, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Thursday, September 13, 2018, from 1 to 2 p.m. at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in Founders Chapel of the funeral home with Dr. Danny Penny officiating. Interment will follow the service at Gaston Memorial Park.
