Martha Isabel Sullivan
PORTSMOUTH - Martha Isabel (Webber) Sullivan, 88, of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018. Martha was born in Portsmouth, August 1, 1930 and resided here all her life. She was the daughter of the late Lieutenant Frederick B. Webber, USN retired and Christie P. (Holt) Webber. Martha attended Portsmouth High School, graduating in 1948. She was an active member of the Atlantic Heights and Lafayette School PTA's, a friend of the Portsmouth Library, a member of The Parents Music Club of Portsmouth High School, as well as a Den Mother for Boy Scout Troop #164. A communicant of Immaculate Conception Church, she volunteered her time to teach the CCD program and belonged to the Women's Altar Society. Mrs. Sullivan was the recipient of the Artillery Order of the Molly Pitcher, presented by the United States Field Artillery Association for distinguished service. She is survived by her son, John F. Sullivan, Jr. and wife Lois; her twin sister Lois Walter and husband Jack; granddaughter Michaela Anderson and her husband Stephen, and granddaughter Courtney Costello and her husband Peter. Mrs. Sullivan also leaves four great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, John F. Sullivan, and two of her sons, James Michael Sullivan and Terrence Sullivan, as well as her sisters, Dorothy W. Hollister and Elizabeth W. Parrotta, and brothers, Philip F. Webber, Franklin W. Webber and David A. Webber. SERVICES: A time of visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., on Friday, September 14, 2018 at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home – Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, followed by A Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 1 p.m., (Friday) at the Immaculate Conception Church of Corpus Christi Parish, 98 Summer St., Portsmouth. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Portsmouth. Family flowers only. Memorial contributions may be made to: the James Michael Sullivan Scholarship Fund, c/o Superintendent of Schools, 1 Junkins Ave., Ste 402, Portsmouth, NH 03801.
