Francis L. Lavertu
ROCHESTER, N.H. - Francis L. Lavertu, 92, of Rochester passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday Sept. 7, 2018 at the Catholic Medical Center after a period of failing health. Most important in his life was his love of family and his strong belief in God and the Lord Jesus Christ. He was born in Massachusetts to the late Ludger and Lillian Lavertu and moved shortly thereafter to Wolfeboro, N.H. He attended Nute High School. He enlisted in the Navy during WWII and served aboard the LST landing ships in the Mediterranean. He worked for 15 years for the B&M Railroad primarily as a telegrapher and also as a station agent. He served at stations in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Maine. Francis then worked for over 26 years as a letter carrier in Rochester for the U.S. Postal service retiring in 1988. He loved the patrons on his mail route and always served them with a friendly smile. He worked for three years in the Pro Shop of the Rochester Country Club. He loved sports, especially bowling and golf. He was a member of the men's bowling league at the Bowlaway Lanes in Rochester and the men's league at the Rochester CC. Francis was a member of the American Legion Post # 18 and a communicant of St. Mary Church, Rochester, N.H. He leaves behind his wife of 72 years, Anna; one daughter, Sharon, both of Rochester; a sister-in-law, a niece and a nephew. SERVICES: The funeral service will be held Wednesday Sept. 12, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main Street, Rochester, N.H.
