CASTLETON - James Joseph "Jim" Amery, 60, of Castleton, died unexpectedly Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018, at his residence. He was born on Oct. 25, 1957, in Rutland, the son of Ken and Betty Jean (Reedy) Amery. Mr. Amery graduated from Fair Haven High School in 1975 and then served in the U.S. Coast Guard prior to his honorable discharge. Jim loved his family, animals and antique trucks. He repaired and sold old trucks, and was an amazing welder. He was known for his hard work, vast knowledge of farming and equipment, and unique outlook and approach to life. He was a mentor to his family and friends in the community. He meant so much to many of us. He will be greatly missed. Jim is survived by his children Liza Melnychuk, Allyson Bertoldi, Jamie, Evan and Austin Amery and Ruby Ianni; his father, Ken Amery; siblings Lori Phillips, Stephen Amery, Mary Lou Thompson and Sandra Melanson-Aussem; grandchildren Olivia Melnychuk, Jack and Weston Bertoldi; former spouse, Claudia Courcelle; his dog, Izzy, and cat, Kitty; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his mother, Betty Jean Amery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Durfee Funeral Home, 119 North Main St., Fair Haven, VT. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Fair Haven. A reception will follow at the Castleton American Legion at 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Fair Haven Union High School Booster Club, 33 Mechanic St., Fair Haven, VT 05743.
