PATTEN WILLIAM F. PATTEN On Wednesday, August 8, 2018, passed away in his sleep in his home in Burke, VA. Born to Dr. William F. Patten and Alva A. Dawson, June 5, 1928. A lifelong Washingtonian, he graduated from American University and played on the AU basketball team. He was a stepson of the late Gen. Donald Dawson, an adviser to President Truman. Commissioned in December 1951 as an ensign in the United States Coast Guard; served as chief gunnery officer on the historic United States Coast Guard vessel the USCGC Ingham. Earned a law degree from Georgetown University in 1956; served as assistant corporation counsel for the District of Columbia; as a personal injury attorney for Joseph D. Bulman, Esq.; a civil litigator for Wilkes & Artis; and later as staff attorney for the U.S. Department of the Interior. The Pattens were a founding family in the Springfield, VA, subdivision of Kings Park. He co-founded and wrote the bylaws of incorporation for the Braddock Road Youth Club and the Parliament Pool and Swim Club. The family later moved to Burke Center. He is survived by children Vance (Debbie) of Dallas, Texas; David (Betty) of West Palm Beach, FL; Wayne (Debora) of Oakton, VA; Kathleen (Matt Ingram) of Manassas, VA; and Robert (Cindi) of Milton, GA; his brother James Patten of North, VA; his sister, Diana S. Dawson of Sarasota, and 14 grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA 22151. A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on September 12 at 11:30 a.m. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory be made to USCGC Ingham at https:// www.uscgcingham.org , c/o USCGC Ingham Maritime Museum, P.O.
