Lorraine Amee Thorpe
STRATHAM - Lorraine Amee Thorpe died Friday, August 24, 2018, in Stratham, N.H., after a period of failing health. Lorraine was born November 23, 1922 to Victor and Mabel Amee of Kittery Point, Maine, and was a longtime resident of Kittery. Lorraine had worked in IRO at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 30 years, before retiring and moving to Port St Lucie, Florida 35 years ago. She was predeceased by her husband, John C. Thorpe, her daughters Linda Burns Smith and Deborah Burns Fenton. She is survived by her children Michael K. Burns (Laurie) of Richmond, Maine, Kathryn Burns Lamphier of Stratham, N.H., and David W. Burns of Bath, Maine; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lorraine led an adventurous life. She would fondly speak of her early married life in the 50's, while stationed in Tripoli, Libya attached to the US Navy, when the country was then governed as a Kingdom. In 1973, as the USA removed our troops, she lived for six months in Saigon, Vietnam, as a civilian records consultant. Travel remained an important part of life, and she had visited all seven continents. Whether it was wintering in Spain or Australia, or sailing on a month long exotic cruise, John and Lorraine loved to travel. At 92, Lorraine enjoyed her last cruise with her granddaughter. Lorraine's other passion was gardening. Her home in Kittery was adorned by several beautiful flower gardens and a large vegetable garden. During the 60's she owned and operated a greenhouse business, selling plants and vegetables. While living in Florida, she crocheted hundreds of beautiful afghans for her family, friends, and local nursing homes. SERVICES: A small celebration of life service will be held at 12:30 p.m., on Sunday, September 9, at daughter, Kathryn's home at 33 Stratham Green, Stratham.
