Betty Bixel Miller (Elizabeth) Jeschke
Betty (Elizabeth) Bixel Miller Jeschke November 27, 1929 – June 27, 2018 Elizabeth Jeschke (usually Betty), 88, died peacefully June 27 at Goshen General Hospital, with family by her side. She had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma six years earlier. Betty was born to Gordon and Margaret Claassen Bixel Nov. 27, 1929, in Bluffton, Ohio. She graduated from Bluffton College in 1951 and that same year married Oscar Miller of Berlin, Ohio. Betty taught elementary school in Holmes County for 34 years, 25 of them teaching third grade at the all Amish Chestnut Ridge school between Berlin and Walnut Creek. During these years she was a member of First Mennonite Church in Sugarcreek. She participated in the founding of the Amish and Mennonite Heritage Center near Berlin. Betty was widowed by her first husband's death of cancer in 1989, and in 1994 married Marlin Jeschke of Goshen. In 1997, Betty and Marlin moved to Goshen, where Betty joined College Mennonite Church and continued to be active in church and community affairs. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Oscar; and her oldest son, James Miller. She is survived by her husband, Marlin; daughter-in-law, Linda Miller; daughter, Kathy Fenton-Miller (Willard); son, Thomas (Crystal); seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gordon and David Bixel and their families. Also three step children, Eric Jeschke (Amy Baum), Margaret Jeschke (Bart Miller), and David Jeschke (Kim Rush), and six step grandchildren. There will be a family graveside service at the Berlin cemetery Saturday, Sept. 15, followed by a reception for friends and family at 2 to 4 p.m. at Berlin Mennonite Church. Memorials can be given to Mennonite Central Committee.
