James Michael "Big Jim" Cotter Jr. passed away September 1, 2018. He was born March 2, 1940 in Somerville, Massachusetts the son of James M. and Edith (Bilsbury) Cotter. Jim graduated from Milford High school in 1957. He would enter the United States Coast Guard in 1958 serving in the Philippines. Jim married Cynthia Lanz- Van Kuiken March 2, 1987 in Las Vegas, NV. Jim owned and operated General Rental of Ionia since 1979 and was later joined in the business by his wife Cindy. Surviving Jim are his wife Cindy Cotter of Ionia. Mother Edith Wojeski of Milford, MA. Children; Bill (Imelda) Velasco of Marysville, WA, Theodore (Krista) Van Kuiken of Saranac and Resa (Tim) Hofmann of Avon Park, FL. Grandchildren; Camile, Alexis, Cristina, Isabel, Emily, Harrison, Sawyer, Theo, Ainsley, Alana and Drew. Great grandchild Jaary. Brother John (Ann Marie) Cotter of Gales ferry, CT. Nieces and Nephews John, Debbie, Robin, Sandy, Cheryl, Michael, Colleen, Liam and Chaya. He was preceded in death by his Father James Cotter and Brothers Richard and Bill. Funeral Services for Jim will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 6, 2018 at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia with Father John Kirkman officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday 2- 4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Please remember a favorite joke in honor of Jim.
