John Bradley
BARRE CITY - John "Jack" Bradley, 84, of North Barre Manor, died peacefully, surrounded by loving family, on the evening of Aug. 28, 2018. He resided most recently, at the Woodridge Rehabilitation Center under the compassionate and attentive care of their nursing and support staff. Jack and his family have lived in Vermont since 1975. Jack was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, on May 6, 1934, the third child of Margaret Talty Bradley and William Bradley. Jack married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Jennings, in 1953, and they were blessed with 43 years of life together. Jack and Marilyn were the proud parents of 13 children. The untimely death of his eldest son, Scott, prompted the family to relocate from the Jersey shore to Marshfield, Vermont, where they were proprietors of the Marshfield General Store for many years. Jack remained a "Jersey guy" at heart, and he was quick with a story and with his words. He prided himself on weekly completion of the NYT Sunday crossword puzzle - in pen. He was an avid cigar aficionado and, in later years, his most beloved relaxation was a long afternoon smoke. Jack was a devoted and active Catholic throughout his life; he was a faithful communicant at St. Monica Roman Catholic Church, Barre. Jack was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marilyn Jennings Bradley, in September 1996, and by their eldest son, Scott, in November 1973. He outlived his three siblings William Bradley, Patricia Bradley Nason, and Gary Bradley. It is said that the true measure of a man is neither his worth nor his deeds but rather, the love that remains after he is gone. Jack leaves a legacy of love that lives on through the 12 surviving Bradley children and their spouses: Kathleen (Edward) Majewski, Howell, New Jersey; Jean Marie (Ralph) Tawil, Elberon, New Jersey; Mark (Wendy), Barre, Vermont; Owen (Jane), Plainfield, Vermont; Sean (Leanne), Shrub Oak, New York; Colin (Servete), Wyckoff, New Jersey; Ian (Kristyn), Barre, Vermont; Evan (Julie) Nampa, Idaho; Mary (Allyson), Newtown, Pennsylvania; Brian (Raquel), Langhorne, Pennsylvania; Patrick (Dhyana), Essex Junction, Vermont; and Maureen (Brendan) Monaghan, Concord, New Hampshire. This tribe of 12 are loving parents of Jack's 36 grandchildren and 11 spouses. The immediate Bradley clan extends further, to include 24 great-grandchildren, and a 25th baby to join our circle of love by year end. A Mass of Christian burial to honor and celebrate his life at St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre will be announced at a later date. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of John and Marilyn Bradley, to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org . Arrangements are in the care of the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer St., Barre, Vermont. Those wishing to send online condolence may do so at www.pruneaupollifuneralhome.com .
