Margaret Ann (Hentz) Pearson
NEWTOWN, Pa. - Margaret Ann Pearson (née Hentz) b. 28 December 1942 d. 23 August 2018. Margaret Ann Pearson of Newtown, Pennsylvania died peacefully on 23 August 2018, at home. She was 75 years old. She had suffered from ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, known also as Lou Gehrig's disease) for over fifteen years before her death. Born and raised in Newtown, Peg lived in Wisconsin for fourteen years, then in Greenfield, Massachusetts for five years, before moving back to Newtown seven years ago to live with her sister, Susan Achenbach. After earning her BA degree from Lake Forest College, Peg served as a social worker helping disabled adults in Doylestown, Pennsylvania and Ithaca, New York. After raising her children, she worked as the manager of Farley's Bookshop in New Hope, Pennsylvania for several years. She was married to Stephen C. Brock from 1965 to 1985. The marriage ended in divorce but produced her two devoted sons, David and Josh. In 1987 Peg married her high school sweetheart, Nils A. S. Pearson. After the diagnosis of ALS, Nils was her loyal and loving caregiver until the onset of his Alzheimer's Disease in 2012. From then to her death, her sister Susan Achenbach, her primary caregiver Shirley Peters, her caregiver Catherine Peters, and several other wonderful personal care assistants provided 24-hour loving support for Peg in Susan's home. For the past several years, Peg was also cared for by the in-home hospice program of Chandler Hall and by hospice nurse and reiki-practitioner Liza Beasley. Peg was an active member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), participating in the Couple Enrichment program and prisoner-visitation programs. She and Nils visited the federal prison in Oxford, Wisconsin for several years; Peg felt she opened the prison system to accommodate powered-wheelchairs and assistive-communication devices. Peg was very interested in the well-being of others and devoted many years of her life to helping others when they were in need. Always with a smile on her face, Peg took pleasure in small things: the bloom of Queen Anne's lace, the evening stars in Wisconsin, a note from a grandchild, the friends she made along the way. She was the daughter of the late Robert A. Hentz, Jr. and the late Doris C. Hentz. She is survived by: her husband, Nils Pearson; her son and daughter-in-law, David C. Brock and Jennifer Stromsten of Greenfield, Massachusetts; her son and daughter-in-law, Joshua and Lisa Brock of Doylestown, Pennsylvania; her granddaughters, Vivian Brock and Lucinda Brock of Greenfield, Massachusetts and Charlotte Brock of Doylestown; her sister Susan Hentz Achenbach of Newtown, Pennsylvania; her brother-in-law William Achenbach of Holland, Pennsylvania; her stepson Eric Pearson of Ogema, Wisconsin; her stepson Daniel Pearson and his wife Stacie, and their daughters Sienna and Abbie, of San Diego, California; and, so many other family and friends. A memorial service will be held later this year at Wrightstown Friends Meeting. To be informed about the details when they become available, email dcbrock1@gmail.com . Burial services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Prisoner Visitation and Support, prisonervisitation.org , or Books Through Bars, booksthroughbars.org.
