CIMARRON - Kelly D. Clark, 67, died August 20, 2018 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. He was born on March 7, 1951 in Garden City, the son of Marvin and Ella (Smith) Clark. Kelly grew up on the family farm northwest of Kalvesta. He graduated from Cimarron High School in 1969. On April 18, 1970, he married Trudy Hornung at Windthorst, she survives. Kelly was a long time resident of Cimarron where he worked for the Gray County sheriff's office before retiring after 31 years of service. In 1984, he became involved in the sport of horse racing, eventually moving into thoroughbreds and was still actively involved. He was a member of the Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, and Oklahoma Thoroughbred Associations and the Copeland American Legion. Kelly is survived by his wife Trudy Clark of Cimarron; one son, Wes Clark and wife Deena of Hays; three grandsons, Lane, Logan, and Landen Clark all of Hays; one brother, Curtis Clark and wife Waneen of Cimarron; two sisters, Marlene Legg of Kalvesta and Shirley Poppe and husband Clyde of Montezuma. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gary M. Clark and wife LouAnn, brother-in-law George Legg; and a nephew, Clint Legg. Funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church in Cimarron on Friday August 24, 2018 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Richard Deimund presiding. Burial will follow at Cimarron Cemetery. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Cimarron on Thursday August 23, 2018 from 12:00 -7:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 5-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Gray County EMS or the donor's choice in care of the funeral home.
