In memory of
Garey Edward Gulledge, 73, of Salisbury, passed away Monday, August 13, 2018 at his home in Salisbury. He was born April 14, 1945 in Washington D.C, to Harry and Mary Cox Gulledge who predeceased him. Garey was a Veteran of the United States Navy serving during Vietnam as a Radar Operator on the Destroyer William Pratt. He was a Federal Protective Services Officer in Milwaukee, WI, and a Military Police Officer in the Wisconsin National Guard. After moving to North Carolina Garey worked as a Corrections Officer for Davie County and then went to work and retired from the W.G. Bill Hefner VA Medical Center as a Police Officer. Garey was the past State Chaplain for the North Carolina American Legion, a member of VFW Post 342, and a member of the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard. Garey was an active member of Faith Baptist Church, a past Deacon, and a member of the Baptist Men's Association. Garey enjoyed military history, making knives, was an avid collector of all things, a writer, a story teller, a musician who could play any instrument, and a world traveler who had "traveled the world five times." In addition to his parents, Garey was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Gulledge. Garey is survived by his daughter, Barbara Gulledge Head of Mocksville; sons, Christopher Gulledge and wife, Jennifer, of Spindale and David Edward Gulledge and wife, Lisa, of Turner, Oregon; grandsons, David Gulledge and wife, Catherine; Shaun Head, Caleb Hall, Jonah Gulledge, and Elijah Gulledge; granddaughters, Kayla Lynn, Jesica Lagle and husband, Ben; Kierstyn Head, Madison Gulledge, Cydney Gulledge, and Hayley Gulledge; great-grandson, Damen Lagle; brothers, Harry Gulledge and Roby Gulledge and wife, Pat; and sisters, Mary Jane Luffman, and Eunice. The family greeted friends and relatives on Saturday, August 18, 2018, 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church, Faith, NC. The funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2018, in the Faith Baptist Church, Faith, NC, with Tim Barnette, officiating. Burial followed in the Faith Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites provided by the United States Navy and the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard.
