MINNEOLA - Hattie Emma Smith, 85, died Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at her home in Minneola, Kansas. She was born January 1, 1933 in Blackgum, Oklahoma the daughter of George and Ethel (Jones) Garrett. She attended school in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and on April 19, 1952 she married Timothy E. Smith. In 1989 her and her husband Tim, moved to Minneola from Wewoka, Oklahoma where the owned and operated Tim's Diner. Hattie was a member of the Minneola United Methodist Church. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed reading. Survivors include: her son, Timothy Smith and wife Angie, Midland, Texas; 2 daughters, Sherry Bryant and husband Ron, Mason, Ohio, and Janet Smith, Minneola; 3 brothers, Grand Somner and wife Judy, Altus, Oklahoma, Gail Somner, Tuscson, Arizona, and Henry Garrett, Tennessee; a sister, Wilma Bash, Bixby, Oklahoma; 8 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Tim on November 27, 2009, sister, Arlene Bash, and brother, George Garrett. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday, August 17, 2018 at Minnis Mortuary, Minneola with Rev. Kip Ryherd officiating. Burial will follow in the Appleton Township Cemetery, Minneola. Visitation with family present will be Thursday, August 16, 2018 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Minnis Mortuary, Minneola. The family suggest memorials to Minneola United Methodist Church or American Red Cross both in care of Minnis Mortuary, P.O. Box 459, Minneola, Kansas 67865.
