TAZEWELL — John Henry Lawson, age 81, passed away Sunday August 12, 2018 surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church. He had attended Riley Memorial Baptist Church faithfully for over 60 years. He confessed his salvation and told his wife, "I am ready to go" as he crossed into Jesus sweet arms. The family expresses gratitude to al the health care community especially Smokey Mountain Hospice that helped care for him during his illness. He was preceded in death by his parents: Tyler and Lillie Lawson; 4 brothers, Pete, Jess, Clovis and Earl; 3 sisters, Mary, Ethel and Etta. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was kind, compassionate and a special man that was loved by all that knew him. He enjoyed his chickens, gathering eggs, going to church and being with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of almost 48 years: Mable Lawson; Daughter: Nancy Gallagher (Jim); Grandchildren: Becky and James Gallagher; Sister: Nettie Gilbert; Special nephews and nieces that helped raise, Allen, Bill and Sarah Francis Rouse; Children that adopted John as their loving papaw, NovaLea Shephard, Taylor McDaniel and Logan Rouse; special brother-in-law and friend Jerry Surber; Sisters-in-law, Mary A. Rouse and Lois Lawson; Brothers-in-law, Billy and Mike Surber; A loving host of nephews and nieces and other family members. John will truly be missed. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 P.M. Tuesday August 14, 2018 at Coffey Funeral Home in Tazewell with funeral service at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday August 15, 2018 in the Coffey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial in the Rouse Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses. Ministers: Rev. Kendall Walker and Rev. Chad Honeycutt Music will be provided by Riley Memorial Church Choir. Pallbearers: Bill Rouse, Allen Rouse, David Butcher, Steve Mayfield, Randy Gilbert, Wesley Surber and Jim Gallagher. Honorary Pallbearers: Mike, Billy and Jerry Surber, James Gallagher, Tom Shephard and the Men from Riley Memorial Baptist Church. Coffey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
