Mary Patricia (Nickelsen) Borghorst
Mary Patricia (Nickelsen) Borghorst Jan. 27, 1944 - June 19, 2018 Mary Patricia (Nickelsen) Borghorst, born Jan. 27, 1944 to Theodore and Janet Nickelsen, passed away June 19, 2018. Mary grew up in Garthwick and Eastmoreland as the oldest of five children. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy in Portland and Gonzaga University in Spokane, where she met her future husband, Robert "Bob" Borghorst. They married in 1966 and had a daughter, Molly, in 1969. Mary dedicated 37 years of her life as a volunteer cook at Albertina's, a restaurant operated for the benefit of the Albertina Kerr Centers. As one of its earliest volunteers, Mary was respected and loved by the Albertina's community. She received the honor of Emeritus Board Member for her many years of devoted service and inspiration as a volunteer and leader. Mary also made many friends as a long-time member of PEO, a philanthropic education organization for women. Mary enjoyed spending time at the Oregon Coast and traveling abroad. She loved cooking and sharing delicious meals with family and friends, decorating for Christmas and hosting celebrations. She was an inspiration to us all and will be dearly missed. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her parents; and sister, Margaret Downer. She is survived by her daughter, Molly Mickley; son-in-law, Chuck; grandson, Cole; siblings, Suzanne Litofe, Katherine Harris and Chris Nickelsen, along with her niece and nephews and their families. A celebration of Mary's life will be held at a later date. Donations in her honor may be made to Albertina Kerr Centers, 424 N.E. 22nd Ave., Portland, OR 97232.
