Jan. 21, 1924 - June 19, 2018 Woodland Martha Kessler, 93, was born Martha Monserud, on Jan. 21, 1924, in Chance, SD, daughter of Pete and Cora Jane, and the youngest of four sisters. She passed away peacefully on the morning of June 19, in Woodland. She is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Kessler, to whom she was wed for 67 years. She had been a school teacher, a homemaker, and an active member of the United Church of Christ. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and a woman of rare creative spirit. She possessed great skill as a seamstress, garment maker, and quilter. She also enjoyed dancing and a nice game of pinochle. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda and husband Carl Hafner of San Antonio, TX; grandson, David Hafner, and by her son, Merle and wife Amy Kessler of Oakland, CA; granddaughter, Justine Kessler, lives in Berkeley, CA. There will be a remembrance, from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 14, in the chapel at St. John's Retirement Village, 135 Woodland Ave., Woodland. Friends are welcome.
