In memory of
Helen Agnes Salazar Davis
July 6, 2018 Woodland Helen Agnes Salazar Davis passed away Friday, July 6, at the age of 89, surrounded by loving family. Born in Knights Landing, she resided in Yolo County all of her life, living in Knights Landing, Zamora, Yolo and Woodland. She was baptized at Holy Rosary Church and completed an excellent formal education at Holy Rosary Academy with siblings Joe, Jess, Mike, Alice and Olivia Salazar. She treasured education and was inspired to bring religious education to public school children through catechism lessons. After marriage and starting her family, she remained in contact with her friends and teachers from Holy Rosary Academy and worked with classmates to arrange Alumnae gatherings. Helen expressed her creativity throughout her life. Meeting her husband, Robert C. Davis, from Santa Paula, CA after the conclusion of his service in WWII, they married in 1953, and enjoyed hiking in the natural beauty of California, where she began collecting natural forms and plant life. She encouraged her children in all forms of crafts and artistic expression. Starting in 1967, she was a regular competitor in Floriculture at the Yolo County Fair both in Artistic Arrangements and in Individual Booths. She brought children and grandchildren into the floral arts and became a member of Davis Flower Arrangers, making presentations with friends, Tina Crutcher and Barbara Lingberg, and serving as co-president for one term. She collected containers and materials for arrangements and decorated holiday trees for the Gibson House Museum. She enjoyed cooking and baking with family, and dabbled in many types of needlework. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, and her mother, Sally (Socorro) Salazar. She is survived by her children, Ann Frances Davis Perry and her husband, Richard, Liz Boswell, and her husband, Ben, and children, Karen Densmore and her husband, Chuck, Kristina Dittemore and her husband, Caleb and daughter, Aysah, and sons, John and Steven, Bill Davis, and his wife, Brook, and children, Justin and Kaylee and Laura Davis, and children, Jennifer Frederiksen, Melissa Fernandez, and husband, Marc, and sons, Cameron and Jordan Frederiksen; sister-in-law, Ruth Salazar; nephew, Rick Salazar, his wife Alison Heath, and their son, James. Helen's devotion to her faith compelled her to delve deeply into study from an early age and sustained her personal conviction and deep gratitude through the end of her life. She was a kind and gentle woman with a great heart for serving God through kindness and charity towards all His children. Her keen sense of humor and ability to laugh put many at ease and will live in our hearts as our model for a humble, gracious and thankful life. Visitation will be held at McNary's Chapel, Saturday, July 14 at 10 a.m., with service and burial at 11:30 a.m., at St. Joseph's Cemetery. The family invites friends and acquaintances to join in a celebration of life reception afterwards. Memorial donations may be made to Meals On Wheels or Woodland Library Rose Club.
