Hilda Joy Bickford
Hilda Joy Bickford 1932 - 2018 OAKLAND - Hilda Joy Bickford, 85, passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2018. She lived her life with love and joy for family and friends. Hilda was born in Waterville in December of 1932, the daughter of Warren and Mary Baldic. Hilda moved from Waterville to Oakland at age 14. She graduated from Williams High School in 1950 and graduated from Thomas College in 1951. Hilda worked for many years as a secretary for an Oakland insurance company. She became a mother in 1958 and enjoyed many years raising her three children as a full-time mother. Hilda returned to work as a secretary to the School Superintendent for the local school system until her retirement. Hilda was very active in many social organizations spending many years as a Girl Scout leader, a Cub Scout Den Mother as well as a Sunday School teacher and Church Librarian. She was a member of the Cascade Grange as well as the Rebecca Assembly of Maine. Hilda loved making quilts for children; including a large number quilts delivered to sick children in hospitals. She loved to bake and all the neighborhood children knew that there were cookies in the cookie jar, and she was known to say, "One for the road!" She was predeceased by her brother Warren Baldic Jr. of Ocala, Fla., and her sister Shirley Baldic Allen of Sidney. Hilda is survived by her husband of 66 years, Gerald M. Bickford of Oakland; her children, daughter Robin Bickford of Oakland, son Glen Bickford and spouse Karen Bickford of Fairfield, daughter Heidi Roberts and her husband John Roberts of Manchester; grandchildren, Angela Burton Ramirez and her husband Erick Ramirez of Charlotte, NC, Damon Bickford and his wife Brittany Bickford of Benton, Nicholas Bickford and his partner Katie Clifford of Oakland, Jarek Pomerleau of Waterville, and Jillian Pomerleau of Waterville; and many great- grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 3, at Lawry Brothers-Wheeler, 26 Church St., Oakland. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. with burial to immediately follow at Lewis Cemetery in Oakland. A reception will follow and will be hosted by the United Baptist Church, 45 Church St., Oakland. IThe family is forever grateful for the loving care she experienced during the last few months at Lakewood Continuing Care Center in Waterville.
