Celebration of the life of Elige Lee Green Jr., born May 21, 1943 to Elige and Rose (Angelin) Green, a native of East Chicago, IN. He was a lifelong resident of the area. He leaves to mourn a loving wife Clanthia Green (Merrick), who owns numerous pieces of property in the city. 2 siblings and a host of nieces and nephews. He was employed with United States Steel for 35 years. Elige took great pride in being a homeowner in the Morningside section of Glen Park. Elige loved working with his flowers and vegetable gardens. He was a Perdue University Advanced Master Gardener. He had a very quiet demeanor, athletic, always running at Lew Wallace High School Track. Swimming in his in-ground pool at night.Elige was a world traveler. Traveling to the Orient, Middle East, Mexico, Russia China, Hong Kong, Africa, Europe, Caribbean, and Egypt. He would always say Egypt was his favorite. He recorded his travels with photographs. He enjoyed watching, boxing matches and classic movies. He volunteered as a Habitat for humanity, work helping to rebuild homes after the hurricanes and passed out food at the food banks. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and 3 brothers Johnny, Arnold and Bruce. He has two siblings remaining. He has a loyal Godchild and a Chihuahua "Cinque Black-eyed Peas". His family was one of the first Black Muslim members in the area. Visitation Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Funeral following at the Guy & Allen Chapel, 2959 W. 11th Ave. Gary, IN Sterling El Amin, officiating. Entombment Calumet Park Cemetery (Service of Resurrection).
