WAKE FOREST, N.C. - Mary Doris Carter Forbes, 86, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at Springmoor Retirement Community in Raleigh. She was born Oct. 6, 1919, in Scotland County, daughter of the late Cora Gibson Carter and Grover Seldon Carter. Mrs. Forbes was employed by Wake Electric Membership Corporation (now NRECA), retiring after 34 years. She was a member of Wake Forest Baptist Church and the A.C. Reid/Friendship Sunday school class. Mrs. Forbes was preceded in death by her husband, Esley Hope Forbes Jr. and her two brothers, Archie Seldon Carter and his wife, Beatrice and William Lee Carter and his wife, Lillian. She is survived by her sons, Esley Hope Forbes III and his wife, Judy of Lenoir, Harvey Stewart Forbes and his wife, Joan of Sanford; two daughters, Annette F. Cannon of Wendell, Nancy F. Harriett and her husband, Bill of Danville, Va.; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Forbes is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Eugenia F. McArver and Mrs. Janette F. Beaver, both of Charlotte; many nieces and nephews, and her long-time friend, Margaret Bagwell Pait. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Wake Forest Baptist Church with Dr. William Slater and Dr. Thomas Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in the Wake Forest Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Stephen Forbes, Charles Cannon, Will Harriett, Stewart Forbes, Scott Forbes and Tim Moretz. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Disease Research at Bryan ADRC, 200 W. Main Street, Suite A230, Box 3503 DUMC, Durham, NC 27705.
